Taking a drive on Trail Ridge Road is not for the faint of heart, though the spectacular views of soaring mountain peaks and cascading waterfalls from the highest paved road in North America is certainly worth the trip. Throughout the state, train rides range from historic steam engines to steep-grade cog trains to all day train excursions that will transport you to unmatched scenery of canyons, bridges and gorges while you pass bighorn sheep and old mining towns. For the more adventurous, and maybe just more romantic, floating through the early morning dawn in a hot air balloon might be just the ticket.

Once known only as a cowtown, Denver and the surrounding region is now a cultural mecca. You can catch a Broadway show at the award-winning Denver Center for the Performing Arts, or watch an advent garde production at one of the dozens of smaller venues around the city. The DCPA is a regular stop for outstanding shows, while the historic Opera House in Central City brings world class opera to a restored Victorian-era theater. Residents also enjoy the Denver Art Museum, the Denver Zoo, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, the Downtown Aquarium, Denver Children’s Museum, and the gorgeous Botanic Gardens, all located within the city of Denver.

Colorado is quickly becoming the beer capital of the nation, currently brewing more beer than any other state. As home of the handcrafted microbrew, hundreds of small breweries are located throughout the State, while mammoths such as Coors in Golden have been successfully operating for decades. Wine lovers also don’t have to go far for excellent regional beverages, as vineyards abound along the Front Range and western slope of the state. Taking a relaxing tour of the vineyards with stops at the many tasting rooms makes for a very pleasant outing.
